Founder  Marlys M. Appleton, has a distinguished career working at major corporates: Morgan Stanley, Bank of America, BlackRock Financial Management and AIG Investments.  Ms Appleton is known for her pioneering work in sustainability risk assessment and  speaks on the integration of sustainability risk for businesses. As an architect of market strategies, she has led responsible change within large organizations and across borders. As a champion of enhanced due diligence around Environment and Social (E-S) risk factors for businesses in multiple sectors, (mining and metals, energy, asset management, financial services), she developed  E-S-G Proxy Policy and lead public engagement on sustainability, including as a member of the UNEP (United Nations Environmental Program) -Finance Initiative's Asset Management Working Group, among other public engagements. 


During eleven years at a global insurance asset manager, Ms Appleton lead  teams in risk and control self assessment and  exercised leadership via clear and insightful messaging, convincing sometimes reluctant executive management to re-define risk, and educate analysts and portfolio managers of the risk of low probability, high impact (Black Swan) events  which could impact its $600 billion portfolio.  During this tenure she was recognized for her contribution in interest rate modeling and corporate models in Ho & LeesOxford Guide to FinancialModeling(2006) and, while at BlackRock, for her contributions to Golub & Tillmans Approaches to Risk Management(2000).  Ms Appleton received an MS in Management from MIT's Sloan School, a BA in Economics from the University of Washington, and an Advanced Certificate in Public Finance from the Graduate School of Business, University of Michigan, and is a citizen of the White Earth Ojibwe Nation.
